Does this not look delightful? LET'S NOT PRETEND SNARKY HIGH SCHOOL MOVIES AREN'T EVERYONE'S FAVORITE. It has been too many years since Mean Girls.

So uh, it's been awhile, has it not? Oh lj, it is not you (although you have been conspicuously quiet as of late!), IT IS ME. You see, in April I was playing a game with myself that involved mapping out my primary fannish areas of interest during the last yearish, and I ended up with this monstrosity:

...and realized that sometime over the year it became impossible to converse with me about things that are not a) space or b) korean celebrities. WHICH IS SURELY ENJOYABLE FOR ALL OF YOU, so I retreated to the batcave. BUT I DON'T KNOW, maybe the first step is admitting I have a problem! Maybe putting it UP IN PUBLIC that I had two Enterprise phases IN ONE YEAR (oh god seriously who does that) is the first step to going back to being a normal lj citizen who talks about NBC comedies and JJ Abrams shows. Maybe at some point this summer I will even watch something new! WE WILL SEE, I hate to say it but it proooooobably depends on whether or not a ZILLION DELIGHTFUL KOREAN MUSIC VIDEOS GET RELEASED AT ONCE, like they have been. God I wish I knew how I became this monster. BUT I DO MISS YOU GUYS AND THE PROCESS OF TALKING TO YOU ABOUT STUFF, and I've gotten a couple of nudges which makes me feel weird and guilty and loved, so I am going to attempt to make conversation about things besides We Got Married and Korean baywatch.

first on the agenda is bones, which, BY THE WAY, is the only tv show I am caught up on, and yet I was still not even aware that this was the season finale until I idly wandered over to you-know-where two days ago to watch it and saw a 'Complete Season 5' post. )

THE OTHER THING WAS THAT THIS HAS NOW COME INTO MY POSSESSION:

BECAUSE YEAH, MY GRANDFATHER IN FACT DID HAVE ONE LINE ON A SEASON 5 EPISODE OF FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS. God knows why they gave him the whole script, but they did, and now it is mine.

Anyway that is all! I hope your summers are off to a lovely start. ENJOY YOUR LAST LOST EPISODE. And hey p.s. does anyone want to draw me a timeline of THEIR fannish areas of interest? A couple of you have to be that bored.

So maybe a week ago [livejournal.com profile] captaincatapult came up with this lovely litte meme thing that went like this:

Think of your favorite celebrity, the one who makes music sound better, movies and television brighter, the one you'd dash to the ends of the earth for if it meant you could save yourself from ever having to go a second without their magic. Then post your favorite 15ish photos of him/her! Your favorites of your favorite!

DELIGHTFUL, RIGHT???? The problem is I am not sure I have a celebrity like that. I have pervasive fondnesses for a long list of people, where I sort of smile when their name pops up (BY THE WAY, why didn't I know unti this week that Kate Mulgrew was in Equus with Danrad in NYC??? God, now I want to goooooooooo) but I don't think there's a single celebrity who could draw me to a movie theater with their name alone (although, tbf, I AM SO BAD AT SEEING MOVIES? The year is almost over and I'm pretty sure I've only seen four films in theaters), whose photo repretoire I know by heart (except I am actually inimately familiar with Rachel Bilson pictures??? I... don't even know.). I tend to obsess over my characters, and having a nice, funny actor who plays them is more icing than cake for me.

EXCEPT THEN I REMEMBERED MY LONG-STANDING LOVE AFFAIR WITH JUDY GARLAND!!!! )

I'm actually kind of glad Thanksgiving break is over, everyone I like from college went home and no one I like came home. I meant to do so much, though, and I did... pretty much none of it. STORY OF MY LIFE. I did discover the best yogurt brand at Whole Foods, though, it's called Rachel's and apparently it's British and they make flavors like Peach Green Tea and Berry Jasmine and Pink Grapefruit Lychee. YUM. And apparently Bones is moving to Thursdays in the spring, BLERG, of course they'd do that after Pushing Daisies is gone.

BUT I'M PRETTY SURE I DIDN'T SPRAIN MY KNEE? *\o/*?

Oh and happy birthday to both [livejournal.com profile] thecolorbetween and [livejournal.com profile] ofadoration! YOU TWOOOO. I'm almost too late as always, but I hope you had lovely days.

SOME YULETIDE RECS BEFORE WE FIND OUT WHO WROTE THEM ALL:

but you're going to have to click the cut first :( )

I would like this moment to lament the fact that all the Chuck entries appeared to me Casey-centric slash. What a missed opportunity for Chuck/Sarah :'( And what a missed opportunity for Californication! I would read stories about David Duchovny uttering witticisms in his underwear any day.

There are also like, 19 Pushing Daisies stories! But I can't bring myself to read them? I am weirdly against reading Pushing Daisies fanfiction. Someone needs to fix that.

Yuletide is great, you guys. There is fic for everything. There is fic for Bringing Up Baby, for goodness' sakes (which... was kind of weird. I wasn't sure I liked that)! I am sad I was disinterested in it earlier this year. Next year I think I might actually participate!

Anyway, boring real life things:

I just met Megan at Pearl Street mall for coffee and shopping things because the University of Michigan has a ridiculously short winter break and she's going back the second (the second!! What is that?) I bought SO MUCH STUFF, you guys. Seriously, I am such a sucker for after Christmas sales. Show me a bucket of girly bath stuff at half price and I go so much crazier than I probably should. I have two more bars of soap, and it takes me fooooorever to go through soap :( Why can't I stop buying it!

Anyway, it just occured to me that I probably... should have gone to the post office to check on the packages? But I rarely have that presence of mind!

Tomorrow is New Year's Eve and it is going to be GREAT. My two best friends and I are driving up to Steamboat Springs for a nice dinner, hot springs, aaaaaaand some champagne. A+ combination for an evening! There were going to be more of us, buuuuut I vetoed boys so we wouldn't have to deal with Meredith's annoying boyfriend Daniel and we don't... really like girls, I guess? ANYWAY. I am excited.

So there is kind of this thing going on in the world right now, where everyone is like "Wow, musicals are kind of... really awesome? How 'bout that?". Which is great. I'm glad everyone is excited about Sweeny Todd, I'm glad the world loved RENT and Hairspray and Chicago, and I'm glad this possibly probably bodes well for future productions of movie musicals with awesome costumes and people dancing and singing happily around soundstages. But here are some cold, hard facts for you: you have not seen enough musicals.

I know you all know about the golden age of the Hollywood musical. 90% of everyone has seen Singing In the Rain and Wizard of Oz, they have earned their place as cultural relics. But there are so many more that most people haven't seen. And I'm just saying, there's something to be said for an age where the producers would shell out to make a cake full of singing people or a red, smoky swimming pool with eleven full-access diving swings. Those days are gone.

but not forgotten! )

P.S. AMTP -- this is what happens when I go through Office withdrawl: massive picspams of MGM musicals.

Hey guys, I've been a super crappy LJ friend as of late, thanks to having a life, which is... weird. School's over twoish weeks (for the semester, I mean), which will be niiiiiiiice, but I'll try to be around more this week too, because I miss you all and this is basically our last of TV. I am sorry I missed birthdays! And I'm sending out Christmas Cards tomorrow or Tuesday, so last call for that. I've kind of lost track of which of your links I've already gone to and which ones I haven't, so if I leave you my address twice, or something, just... ignore me. I'm overzealous about the Holiday season.

I also want to do this meme, just because: Name a character (or few) from one of my fandoms and I'll give you (a) three facts about them from my personal canon/fanon, (b) a reason he/she sucks, (c) a reason he/she is awesomecakes, (d) five things that never happened to that character or (e) five people that character never fell in love with and why. You pick the character. I pick the letter.
