SOME YULETIDE RECS BEFORE WE FIND OUT WHO WROTE THEM ALL:

  • 40 Miles North of Presidio (friday night lights)
Reaaaaaally lovely Tim Riggins stuff. This might be my favorite Yuletide story (might! I don't actually know!), and I'm not even a big Riggins fangirl!

  • For Everything (the family stone)
I really liked this movie! I've seen it three times and... I always cry :/ And I am unerringly fond of Rachel McAdams, Sarah Jessica Parker (I know I'm like... the only one, HA), and Luke Wilson (who I find a little attractive, despite the fact that he will always be part buck-toothed Texas sheriff to me). But since I am picking fic and not fandom: this is a pretty thing about Amy and Patrick and Thad, who... were great characters. It's nice to have more time to explore them!
  • If We Were (weeds)
Kind of entertaining? I haven't... really ever considered Andy/Doug... ever, but they are on the short list of Weeds characters I do not usually want to maim, so this was... interesting? It made me laugh.

  • Jury Duty (30 rock)
With some shows it seems next to impossible to find a story that adequately captures the tone (like, oh my god, Scrubs? How could you possibly capture Scrubs in a story?) but somehow this story... gets 30 Rock. It's absolute madness, and... I don't know. It's beautiful.

  • Nature or Nurture (30 rock)
I enjoy Jack/Liz, but Jack/Liz porn kind of... frightens me. Yuletide kind of helped me discover that? This story was right at my comfort level. It's a follow-up to Ludachristmas and it is perfectly uncomfortable UST. Yay!

  • River (the office rpf)
OH MY GOD I LOVED THIS SO MUCH. Gen RPF about the Office cast at Christmases. Absolutely lovely!

  • The Biggest Win (friday night lights)
    Pretty early-on Eric/Tami stuff!

I would like this moment to lament the fact that all the Chuck entries appeared to me Casey-centric slash. What a missed opportunity for Chuck/Sarah :'( And what a missed opportunity for Californication! I would read stories about David Duchovny uttering witticisms in his underwear any day.

There are also like, 19 Pushing Daisies stories! But I can't bring myself to read them? I am weirdly against reading Pushing Daisies fanfiction. Someone needs to fix that.

Yuletide is great, you guys. There is fic for everything. There is fic for Bringing Up Baby, for goodness' sakes (which... was kind of weird. I wasn't sure I liked that)! I am sad I was disinterested in it earlier this year. Next year I think I might actually participate!

Anyway, boring real life things:

I just met Megan at Pearl Street mall for coffee and shopping things because the University of Michigan has a ridiculously short winter break and she's going back the second (the second!! What is that?) I bought SO MUCH STUFF, you guys. Seriously, I am such a sucker for after Christmas sales. Show me a bucket of girly bath stuff at half price and I go so much crazier than I probably should. I have two more bars of soap, and it takes me fooooorever to go through soap :( Why can't I stop buying it!

Anyway, it just occured to me that I probably... should have gone to the post office to check on the packages? But I rarely have that presence of mind!

Tomorrow is New Year's Eve and it is going to be GREAT. My two best friends and I are driving up to Steamboat Springs for a nice dinner, hot springs, aaaaaaand some champagne. A+ combination for an evening! There were going to be more of us, buuuuut I vetoed boys so we wouldn't have to deal with Meredith's annoying boyfriend Daniel and we don't... really like girls, I guess? ANYWAY. I am excited.

I've only written one PD fanfic but you can read that if you like!

I might like to! I think I remember reading a PD drabble by you at some point? Maybe? That worked for me, but for some reason... I don't know. It feels weird, reading about it? I am always overwhelmed by use of narrator in the first paragraph and end up clicking the back button.

I've written a few drabbles but only one longish fic here (http://austen.livejournal.com/289814.html). They're kind of like little drabbles put together in one long story, actually.

I was (well, still am) going to do a Yuletide rec post, too! The Pushing Daisies fic are actually really good - they're mostly backstory about Emerson's knitting which is LOVELY but there's also another story that I love so much which I shall rec in my post. I was also at first weird about reading PD fic because it's just so perfect already but sometimes I just really really want Ned and Chuck to TOUCH EACH OTHER.

Same here about Chuck. I'm not a Chuck/Sarah shipper but I did have a tiny inkling of hope for either Chuck/Bryce or Chuck/Awesome. :\

Anyway! I love your recs, especially that FNL one about Tim. Ughhh. Gorgeous.

There's usually a transitional period for me and reading fic in certain fandoms? I feel like once I dive into PD fic I will read a lot a lot, but for now I feel weird even testing the waters. But you should totally do a Yuletide rec post! I will totally read whatever PD fic you rec.

I'm not even locked in my Chuck/Sarah ways! I could have been happy with Sarah/Bryce or Bryce/Chuck (BRYCE IS SO PRETTY!) but it was ALL CHUCK/CASEY. What is that?

Aww I'm jealous of your New Year's Eve plans. I'm not even sure what I'm doing yet. I think I'm going over my best friend house.

Going over to your best friends' house is probably going to be fun, though! Honestly, last year I was in London and I rung in the New Year on a bus full of drunk twelve-year-olds. The funnest ways are often the simplest ways!

You HAVE to read this PD fic, it is brilliant: Twice Upon A Time (http://www.yuletidetreasure.org/archive/54/twiceupon.html). It's about the NARRATOR. And Ned and Chuck. BUT THE NARRATOR!! It reminded me of the Time Traveler's Wife.

Also dude, tell me of your wish to maim most Weeds characters! I'm so curious.

Also, I would like to alert you that there isn't fic for everything. I fantasized that there would be fic for The Holiday, but apparently thinking about Graham and Amanda outside of that film is not something done by many. That's the problem with yuletide; I have all these things I'd love to see but I'm certain I wouldn't be able to write something under pressure in return.

Your New Year's sounds lovely and exactly the kind of thing I'd like to do as well. I think it's going to be more basement parties this year. Sigh.

That sounds creative! I will read it ASAP.

Weeds is just the only show I enjoy that I spend a large portion of the screentime wanting to NAILBAT THE CHARACTERS. I think Andy and Conrad are the only two I consistently adore. I am fond of Nancy and Celia and Doug and Shane, but they often do things that irritate me. The rest of them DRIVE ME UP THE WALL. Heylia? Silas? Isabelle? Lupita? I find them so displeasing! I feel like the cringey feeling goes with the show, though. SO.

I do know this, it's just that Yuletide opens up so many random doors. But there's even room for disappointment in the fandoms that do get picked: I was so excited for the Anne of Green Gables section, because HELLO CHILDHOOD LOVE, but I didn't really like any of it all that well. OH WELL.

If you didn't do basement parties some years, the fantastic New Year's years wouldn't seem nearly as fantastic!

Andy is my favorite, I also love Doug and Dean. And yeah, Conrad. I'm usually so fascinated by Nancy's behavior I forget to be irritated. She's like a psych experiment! I do though hate Silas with every fiber of my being. Possibly my least favorite tv character ever. Kudos to the actor who plays him - he's perfect as a teenager with a shitty attitude. FUCK SILAS. God, I can't even think about him.

I will forever be praying for Judah to appear in another flashback. Those scenes in the beginning made me deliriously happy - what a wonderful father!

OH MY GOD, Judah flashbacks are MY FAVORITE. I am always deliriously pleased by wonderful fathers.

I really actually love Nancy. She is incredibly fucked up, but... I kind of adore her too much to be all that frustrated with her.

you can't deny she's a terrible mother though...

Oh, yes, she is AWFUL in that regard. It's almost funny how much the responsible one in the household Andy really is.
