this post + this icon = MY CHILDHOOD POP CULTURE. i miss being 4.

So maybe a week ago [livejournal.com profile] captaincatapult came up with this lovely litte meme thing that went like this:

Think of your favorite celebrity, the one who makes music sound better, movies and television brighter, the one you'd dash to the ends of the earth for if it meant you could save yourself from ever having to go a second without their magic. Then post your favorite 15ish photos of him/her! Your favorites of your favorite!

DELIGHTFUL, RIGHT???? The problem is I am not sure I have a celebrity like that. I have pervasive fondnesses for a long list of people, where I sort of smile when their name pops up (BY THE WAY, why didn't I know unti this week that Kate Mulgrew was in Equus with Danrad in NYC??? God, now I want to goooooooooo) but I don't think there's a single celebrity who could draw me to a movie theater with their name alone (although, tbf, I AM SO BAD AT SEEING MOVIES? The year is almost over and I'm pretty sure I've only seen four films in theaters), whose photo repretoire I know by heart (except I am actually inimately familiar with Rachel Bilson pictures??? I... don't even know.). I tend to obsess over my characters, and having a nice, funny actor who plays them is more icing than cake for me.

EXCEPT THEN I REMEMBERED !

I am going to stare at her pretty, smiling face for awhile and pretend her life was actually as nice as it looks in these photos.

I'm actually kind of glad Thanksgiving break is over, everyone I like from college went home and no one I like came home. I meant to do so much, though, and I did... pretty much none of it. STORY OF MY LIFE. I did discover the best yogurt brand at Whole Foods, though, it's called Rachel's and apparently it's British and they make flavors like Peach Green Tea and Berry Jasmine and Pink Grapefruit Lychee. YUM. And apparently Bones is moving to Thursdays in the spring, BLERG, of course they'd do that after Pushing Daisies is gone.

BUT I'M PRETTY SURE I DIDN'T SPRAIN MY KNEE? *\o/*?

Oh and happy birthday to both [livejournal.com profile] thecolorbetween and [livejournal.com profile] ofadoration! YOU TWOOOO. I'm almost too late as always, but I hope you had lovely days.

BY THE WAY, KATE MULGREW WAS AWESOME IN EQUUS :DDDDD

Oh Judy. She is so lovely it is ridiculous. I'm trying to think of a celebrity I love that much. Hm.

[identity profile] goldenmelisande.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 04:49 am (UTC)(link)
Aw, I love her. But I am such a giant fail when it comes to old Hollywood, I've only seen a couple of old movies and I don't know very much about it. BUT I LIKE JUDY GARLAND A LOT AND I LIKE THE GRAND TOTAL OF TWO SONGS I HAVE BY HER TOO.

[identity profile] stepliana.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 04:50 am (UTC)(link)
These pictures! I love all of them - but especially the ones with Mickey Rooney and Gene Kelly, they seriously don't make movie stars like that anymore. Love love love.

[identity profile] elapses.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 04:55 am (UTC)(link)
LOL BOASTING :(

ISN'T IT WEIRDLY HARD THOUGH? This was almost the "pretty blonde girls I kind of like on TV" picspam because I couldn't think of someone I liked more. EXCEPT THEN, OF COURSE, JUDY.

[identity profile] elapses.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 04:56 am (UTC)(link)
YOU WOULDN'T LIKE HER MOVIES, SRY2SAY.

[identity profile] goldenmelisande.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 05:00 am (UTC)(link)
AW :( WAIT OMG I LIKED THE WIZARD OF OZ, IT HAS SINGING RIGHT???? THAT COULD TOTALLY BE #5 ON MY LIST!

[identity profile] elapses.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 05:01 am (UTC)(link)
Aren't she and Mickey daaaaaaarling? He's actually kind of a homophobic, sexaholic twat (I will never ever understand the fact that he got Ava Gardner in the first place, let alone that she divorced him for philandering? whaaaaaaaaat?) but they're just so FUN together, I cannot hate him.

[identity profile] elapses.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 05:04 am (UTC)(link)
I'm starting to think you just haven't seen enough musicals to fully know whether or not you actually totally hate them? YOU KNOW? Hating Chicago and Moulin Rouge is a valid lifestyle choice, but OH MY GOD, THE OLD MGM MUSICALS???? There is nothing better, YOU SHOULD TRY A COUPLE.

Gosh, she's pretty.

[identity profile] goldenmelisande.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 05:07 am (UTC)(link)
I WILL TRY FOR YOU BB, which ones should I watch?

[identity profile] elapses.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 05:08 am (UTC)(link)
&YOU;

Just Judy Garland or in general?

[identity profile] goldenmelisande.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 05:08 am (UTC)(link)
In general!

[identity profile] modernthirst.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 05:12 am (UTC)(link)
Oh goodness, OLD FARTS. Ew I just called Judy Garland an old fart. She was sooooo lovely though, I enjoyed looking at these. I like that she is your Zac Efron equivalent, hahaha. I want to put everyone's person in the same room and see what happens.

[identity profile] barilace.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 05:17 am (UTC)(link)
I knew every single word to The Wizard of Oz as like a 4 year old. Every.Single.Word. Scenes from the cross my mind ALL the time. I think it's been ingrained in my brain due to how many times I watched it as a kid. My mom said it was my "first movie." Awww.

[identity profile] elapses.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 05:17 am (UTC)(link)
Go for On the Town and Meet Me In St. Louis! (Have you seen the classics, other than Wizard of Oz? Singing in the Rain, an American in Paris, the Band Wagon?)

The thing you were saying last night-- about how you like HSM because the whole thing is cheesy and lame-- a loooooooooooooot of MGM musicals are like that. Most of them (not as much the ones I recc'd, though) are really flimsily plotted excuses for huge song and dance spectacles? IT'S PRETTY AWESOME, I'M NOT GOING TO LIE.

[identity profile] custardpringle.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 05:18 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, but Bones is being moved to make room for TIM ROTH FIGHTING CRIME.

:D? :D?

[identity profile] elapses.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 05:19 am (UTC)(link)
I KNOW!!! I am always surprised that she and Liza Minnelli came from the same gene pool. That probably makes me an awful person.

[identity profile] goldenmelisande.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 05:21 am (UTC)(link)
I haven't seen any of those! Just the Wizard of Oz. I'll see if we have any of them in our movie closet and if not I'll find a way. :D JSYK though, if they are awkward I will turn them off, I HATE AWKWARDNESS. Especially awkward singing.

Also I think I might do this meme, and you picking Judy Garland reminded me of my intense childhood love for Shirley Temple, so.

[identity profile] elapses.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 05:21 am (UTC)(link)
I like that she is your Zac Efron equivalent
IT'S FUNNY, but they're a loooooooooot the same if you think about it. Teen stars! Triple threats! Kind of funny-looking as kids but they both grew into it?

[identity profile] modernthirst.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 05:24 am (UTC)(link)
!!!!! excellent points! oh, how they grew into it.

[identity profile] elapses.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 05:26 am (UTC)(link)
Shirley Temple's in one of the pictures I picked, did you see?!

Awkward in what way? There are a couple of things that happen to Gene Kelly that miiiiiiiiiiiiiight be construed that way (he gets dumped, and then there's a police chase scene, and some ~Arabian cross-dressing~) if you have like, a ridiculously low tolerance, but I have a pretty hard time dealing with awkwardness too and they don't bother me at all.

[identity profile] goldenmelisande.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 05:29 am (UTC)(link)
I didn't originally but I scrolled back up and awwww!!!! :D I LOVE HER. I especially love that she managed to have a successful happy marriage and become an ambassador to Africa instead of crashing and burning like almost every other child star at the time. Or in general.

IDK just to me bursting out into song is generally awkward unless I can laugh at it. WE SHALL SEE HOW THIS GOES. I will probably like at least some of the movies though because I do like Shirley Temple movies and they all have singing, and I like The Wizard of Oz a whole lot.

[identity profile] elapses.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 05:31 am (UTC)(link)
I'm so glad I wasn't the only one who was raised on her! SHE WAS MY HALLOWEEN COSTUME WHEN I WAS SIX, and she is definitely the only actress whose entire body of work I'm familiar with. THE WIZARD OF OZ IS SUCH A GOOD KID MOVIE.

[identity profile] elapses.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 05:35 am (UTC)(link)
EVERYONE FIGHTS CRIME THESE DAYS, THOUGH, and it's on Fox, SO IT'S ALREADY CANCELLED.

[identity profile] custardpringle.livejournal.com 2008-12-01 05:36 am (UTC)(link)
I STILL WANT GARY OLDMAN TO GUEST STAR ON TIM ROTH'S SHOW :( INO IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN IN THE THREE WHOLE EPISODES THE SHOW WILL LAST, BUT I WANT IT ANYWAY.
