Um I don't think I ever even NOTICED THAT, I guess the time I looked at the lyrics I never got over laughing at ~you're ruining my report card but idc~ and didn't scroll all the way down. But they really aren't! And ugh 2NE1, I LOVE THEM but I'm just really not into any of the music they've put out in the last... year, so it's really hard to keep being super into them. (On the flipside I personally thought f(x)'s album was A-MAY-ZING, whatever kpop fandom!) But yeah totally! I guess what I always wish is that the SNSD dancers got a chance to do fun stuff like f(x) does? I mean obv they're not going to shell out the big bucks for good choreography for a special dance stage, but. IN MY DREAMS THEY WOULD.

I agree re: SM/JYP/YG, I think it's really interesting how even though they all have different groups to fill different niches there's still a really obvious brand all the way they do. AND I K R I am constantly amazed by how wrong kpop fandom is about everything.

You're so right, it does grow on you like that in a much more general sense! Pre-kpop me would be like "okay, sure!" about a lot of the dance-y singles I listen to now, but would totally side-eye current me for the selection of shitty OST ballads I have on my computer now. ALSO I AM LEGIT ALONE ON THIS BUT I KIND OF LIKED YOONA'S FRINGE?! Idk it was very Kill Bill, it makes me think of katana-yielding Yoona. Iiiiiiiiidek. But yeah the next comeback is going to be SO key, in so many ways. (I'M SO EXCITED AHHH IT'S SO SOON)

LOL I READ THE WHOLE THING, the whole song was like a terrible tween romance novel and I had to know what happened next- did her parents ever approve??? etc. I mean tbh these english translations are questionable, but that is too hilarious to be mistranslated, right? I guess with 2NE1 I just want to be into them more than I am actually am, which is a shame. Yeah can we go back to I Don't Care, please? Actually all their early stuff is great. f(x)'s album really grew on me, w/e kpop fandom. I heard a lot of people call it boring/generic which is just stupid, their stuff doesn't sound like anything like what other girl groups are producing right now. I don't know why but f(x) are treated like the problem child of kpop, nothing they ever do is good enough. And for the record I adored Hot Summer, it was fun and super catchy. IN MY DREAMS TOO.

There really is a common thread that runs through all of them in the way they're produced, yet they're so different! These things endlessly fascinate me, what is my life. And it has everything to do with the way ladies are treated in the kpop fandom, you would think since the majority of fandom is made up OF WOMEN, we would respect them more. But no. Lol sorry, still bitter about everything Hyuna this year.

ARE YOU ME, I have tons of shitty OST ballads on my laptop on constant repeat, they are ridiculous/wonderful. I love them so much I actually legit like them now. Lol I think you may be alone! I am apathetic towards the fringe, but I agree it did give her an edge which was pretty awesome. I love that the fringe was actually controversial despite the fact that oh idk, it's just hair and obviously Yoona is gorgeous all the time and a bit of hair on her forehead is going to make no difference. I AM REALLY HOPEFUL AND EXCITED TOO!!

I have actually bought several things that didn't actually fit me at all just because they felt nice on the hanger. I am ridiculous.

THAT WHOLE ALBUM WAS LYRICALLY KIND OF HYSTERICAL, like what the hell was Pinocchio even about. And yeah I feel the same way! Their first mini album was like, flawless/perfect/so great and I just... wish they could get a new producer or something because I just really don't like anything they put out anymore. But apparently other people do, so! Idk. I think part of it is that I'm just not that into the YG "sound" or whatever, I'm pretty sure the reason I ended up such an SM stan is because their brand of shitty pop music is more my brand of shitty pop music than JYP or YG necessarily is. I mean obv I love plenty of non-SM kpop songs, but I am pretty much guaranteed to like a SM single! Often even the shitty ones. ALSO I LOVED HOT SUMMER SO MUCH, I was obsessed with it for like a month! I was going to link to my last.fm f(x) page (http://www.last.fm/user/ossements/library/music/f(x)) to indicate just how much I loved it but lol it's not even as high up as I thought it would be, aaaaaaapparently I just listen to a lot of f(x).

NO WORRIES IT'S SUPER INTERESTING TO ME TOO, although I totally question my life choices all day every day. Also ughhhhh I swear to god this is like, the backwardest fandom ever in the world, people are SUCH assholes about girls ALL THE FUCKING TIME. The Hyuna stuff was terrible :(

IT'S LIKE I HATE SOME OF THEM BUT OTHERS I JUST LOVE, SO MUCH!!!!! It's a problem. But it's also great. And okay not to get all nerdy/meta on Soshi's HAIR but I think the reaction those bangs was super interesting, specifically because I don't think it would've been quite the same if it had been one of the other girls? Idk I just find it really interesting how within every kpop group there are certain girls whose hair they are willing to experiment with, but the "face" girls (and sometimes other ones, like in SNSD this also applies not just to Yoona but also to Yuri and Seohyun: they'll like, drastically change the hair of any of the others but slightly brown and shoulder length is about as far as they ever go with those three) generally aren't as much? It applies to most of the groups, idk, I don't think, say, Suzy or Sohee or Goo Hara or Jaekyung will ever really be anything but long or dark, but in preparing for a comeback pretty much everyone else is fair game to, idk, go blonde.

I HAVE NO IDEA, what were SM thinking. It was great, but I understood nothing. See, that's weird because I thought they still used the same producer currently, but their stuff now is so different. Idek what they were doing with Ugly, lyrically that song is just :| and everything 4minute has done this year I haven't really liked all that much either. Exactly! I am not into the YG "sound" either; it really is to do with general music taste. If I wanted to listen to that kind of pop music, I don't think I would listen to kpop tbh. SM's shitty pop songs are exactly the type of stuff that appeals to me, even if they are terrible I will still secretly listen to them. I do not care about that remake crap, it was so awesome. Lol you really do, all your loved tracks are my favourites!! I really want f(x) to do a few more shitty ballads though, that is my secret wish for their next comeback.

Well, for me they all sound so similar, the song construction is always the same. And yet! If Kyuhyun or someone sings it I AM SO THERE, whatever it is. Lol free to get meta about anything Soshi! I agree, it's like those three have to stay a constant in the group, and the "faces" as well in the other groups. I think it has something to do with who the Korean public view as who is more "traditionally" attractive, and the preservation of that. It's really weird.

I DID, and it was so embarrassing despite the fact that the shop assistant didn't know that I'd bought them for such a stupid reason. I just said they didn't fit me, which was the truth but urghh cringe

Oh whoop, totally forgot about the uselessness debate. I am fairly sure you'll agree with this but man I just really hate that entire IDEA, because frankly most groups with "useless" members would not have gotten nearly as far if they didn't have their Yoona or their Sohee or their Sandara Park or whatever. AND SHE IS A DOLL!!

They do use the same producer currently!! They always have. I think he's just burned out or something, I really wish they'd get handed over to someone who'd give them something differently. But yeah ugh Ugly, it seems like they were just trying to emphasize some ephemeral difference between them and "other" girl groups but... :|indeed. BUT YES SM'S SHITTY POP SONGS ARE PERFECT TO MY EARS, even like, that terrible CSJH single that just came out is appealing to me because... idk it was badly meshed together but there was something about it that was still so SM. I once read a comment about how SM basically buys really awful pop songs and makes them mediocre, and idk I loved that because it's pretty true. BUT LIKE, IDK, AS FAR AS I'M CONCERNED THEY SHOULD KEEP DOING WHAT THEY'RE DOING... But ahahah! Their shitty ballads are pretty fun.

Yeah they're pretty boring and generic. BUT OCCASIONALLY!!! But yes exactly, it has a lot to do with like, a traditional Korean beauty standard, and while that's not to say that the other girls aren't beautiful they seem to have a more malleable beauty?! You don't see it as much with Soshi but I feel like in other groups (they also mark it with clothing, like Sulli/Suzy/etc are always in dresses and not pants because those are the members they want to play the role of the cute, traditional asian beauty. But yeah it is kind of wierd!

I've been staring at your icon for the past two minutes. I feel like I should know who it is, but I just... don't. Although my deduction skills are mediocre at best - when I decided I was super ~into~ Soshi I still couldn't tell apart Yoona/Seobb/Yuri, what is wrong with me. I feel like in kpop people just throw around the word 'useless' way too much, no one is useless in a group. But they especially pinpoint girls in their respective bands, which is really the worst. I mean, practically every 2PM member is pretty 'useless' if we're being judgemental, but no one really comments on that. Wow, that was mean. I love you really Chansung!! Alot of the reason Yoona is the most recognisable to the Korean public is because of her acting, which has definitely contributed to Soshi's current popularity. It's not because she's ~always in the middle~, jeez. Lol forget YG, Sandara practically promotes 2NE1 on her own. If I see another article on allkpop about another of her me2day posts, I will die. She also talks about Mblaq more than anyone else ever does. She is a marketing machine!! Omg she so is, I adore that picture from Nylon of her in the minnie mouse mask, uh.

I just feel that everyone is talking about how great I Am the Best is, and I'm still sitting here jammin' to I Don't Care. And that is circa 2009 I think, it has been YEARS. Teddy is alarmingly inconsistent, I think. Lol that CSJH single!! That is the best example of classic SM mediocrity, but there was something oddly appealing about it. CSJH are kind of the Queens of shitty SM ballads, they really should have come back with one of those. TRUEST STATEMENT ABOUT SM EVER MADE. Exactly! I really want Luna to sink her teeth into something that really showcases her great/flawless she is.

It seems I have no perspective on quality anymore, so idk what is boring/generic and what is not :/ Yeah, like beauty that can be experimented with. And alot of certain outfits/crazy hairstyles are just used to draw attention/idk what else. Like with Jihyun's crazy 'carrot' hair in 4minute's recent promotions apparently got her alot of attention, which is probably the most attention she's ever had in her entire career. Which when you think about it, is actually quite sad.

I always feel like I'm being judged when I return something, omg. It's not like I don't deserve it half the time because I am an idiot but still.

Hahah it's Suzy! I'm pretty sure it's a predebut picture, so. But Soshi was hard!! It took me like a month to be able to differentiate them all, and I remember right when I thought I had it completely down I sat through an entire performance thinking Seohyun was Yuri.

I HAVE THIS LIKE, tendency to be really fond of useless groups and useless members -- like Noeul of Rainbow and my weird obsession with Azi of Chi-Chi. ANYWAY FOR REAL I THINK THAT'S WHY 2PM IS ONE OF THE BOY BANDS I AM FONDEST OF (I mean "boy bands I am fondest of", even my favorite is like number #10 overall, boys are boring), because they are so useless. Also I kind of agree about Yoona's acting but kind of don't: I mean I do think it was instrumental in getting her out to the public and therefore the group out to the public, but I don't really think she just happened to be the actress. She was always meant to be the face of the group, and the same people who put her in the center of the choreography are the same people who got her the spots in those dramas. But I mean SNSD would be nowhere close to where it is without her, so. I mean. It's hard to fuss about.

I Am the Best was LAME, I Don't Care was AWESOME!! But yeah it definitely was 2009, and it's seriously sad because I loved EVERY SONG on their first mini but I don't think I've been more than "eh it's fine" enthusiastic about anything sense. AND UGH THAT CSJH WAS SO MUCH MORE FUN THAN IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN, they were just broing out and ugh it was kind of fantastic.
