some musical things!

1. In Rainbows is ridiculously wonderful, and it makes me SO MANY KINDS of happy just to listen to it. Thank you, Thom Yorke, Jonny Greenwood, Ed O'Brien, Colin Greenwood, and Phil Selway. Thank you.
2. The Pipettes! Are coming to Denver! Finally! On November 5th!
lovecycle, I DO NOT CARE WHAT YOU HAVE ALREADY PLANNED ON THIS NIGHT, I do not care if it is your boyfriend's birthday (or your other boyfriend's birthday) or the night of some school play (it can't be), THIS IS WHAT YOU ARE DOING ON NOVEMBER 5TH AT EIGHT P.M. And if for some reason you are still stupid enough to not want to come with me, know that I will go with someone else. But I thought of you first!
3. I made a fanmix! For Pushing Daisies! Already! I'm a little embarrassed by how quickly television kind of, um, grew on me this season? Usually I am not inspired to make a fanmix (in four hours) after two episodes of a show, but um. This time I was.
I tried to capture the magic of this show and this ship, with its colors and its score and Lee Pace! and Jim Dale's background voice, but alas, I feel it would take someone eleventy times more talented than I. STILL, this mix is characterized by whimsy and pretty cinematic background music and lovely extended metaphors and the line between life and death and also, the sort of glee that had bubbled up inside of me by the time the ending credits rolled last Wednesday, plus one French song because le Jarslberg est sur la table.
There is a very intricate reason for each song I have chosen, and I so very much want to explain this mix to death, but I'm kind of a rambler, so I will abstain:

.rar file at mediafire
1. page france - the ruby ring man
i would kiss the devil's cheek to get this halo off of me/and in my twisted afterlife you would be my family tree
2. the boy least likely to - paper cuts
just be careful when you shine/because if you throw a light/on something magical/it disappears
3. basia bulat - the pilgriming vine
so tell me you're always my only/never look down by the maple if I go/never look down if i go
4. seabear - hands remember
can't wait to feel brand new/i can't wait to meet you again/friend
5. anja garbarek - my fellow riders
every now and then/i'm slipping back again/empty and mortal
6. sufjan stevens - that dress looks nice on you
when the world looks back/when the face looks after that/I can see a lot of life in you
7. andrew bird - a nervous tic motion of the head to the left
you're what happens when two substances collide/and by all accounts you really should have died
8. albin de la simone and feist - elle aime
et c'est moi qu'elle aime/j'ai beau chercher partout en moi, c'est un mystère/je ne me sens pas gnou ni kangourou pépère

Date: 2007-10-12 07:01 pm (UTC)That whole song reeks of this show, it's a little sick. Tonally, lyrically, everything. I COULD HAVE MADE AN ENTIRE FANMIX FOR THEM JUST FROM PAGE FRANCE SONGS, but I managed to abstain.

Date: 2007-10-14 02:27 am (UTC)Isn't that the mark of a good tv couple? I feel like I always feel this way. But there is something heart-wrenchingly lovely, though, about Ned and Chuck and the way they are, because they are not not together because there are emotional obstacles -- they very much want to have something. Gak, this is going to kill us.
And thank you, I hope you like the songs!

Date: 2007-10-14 02:29 am (UTC)I'm currently a French major, actually! It's a weird place to be: I speak it pretty well, but I'm not fluent and I'm pretty sure just taking French classes isn't going to make me fluent.

no subject
Date: 2007-10-14 05:40 pm (UTC)And sure! Here's my loose translation:
She loves hungarian films
sub-titled in czech
Bach, Repac, Bartok
and Chinese Opera
Velvet underwear
the smell of gasoline
Fish stew
And 100 day eggs (which is some sort of weird, French delicacy I don't quite understand!)
And it's me that she loves
He likes turkey cheeks
English restaurants
Swiss mythology
And the smell of babies
Ballet orchestras
Kiwi with maroilles (a type of cheese)
Quiet chanting
And the films of stammerers
And it's me that she loves
She loves the cry of vermin
And rotten milk
Teepees and gnus,
Chlorine and molasses
She cherishes owls
Dismembers rats
Reveres Papuans
And myopic kangoroos
And it's me that she loves
I've looked deep inside myself, and it's a mystery
I don't sense gnus or quiet kangaroos
Or Papouans or fish or babies or cheese
Absolutely never czech, owls, or tchick-tchick (as I understand it, tchick-tchick is an onomonotopeia used for bird sounds)
Czech, owls, or tchick-tchick]
And it's me that he loves
I thought it was incredibly appropriate given this last episode and the way Chuck wants to know everything about Ned -- and later, vice versa -- to have a love song that was actually a list of weird quirks two people have.
