LOOK WHAT CSPAN DUG UP FOR US:

OH, TO BE A FLY IN THE WEST WING COME JANUARY 2009.

(The fact that I only have one politics tag is getting absurd.)

After months of Tupperware-tight leak control from the Obama campaign, Emanuel offered up one of the first peeks inside the machine, with an almost operatic two-day public debate with himself over whether he should take the job.

THE NEXT EIGHT YEARS ARE GOING TO BE SO AWESOME.

HA HA HA, OH PREZ.

(he looks so young!! a baby!)

I am having the same problem with the politics tag, I use the same one as you and every time I make a post now I think THIS IS SUCH AN INACCURATE, PETTY TAG. But I don't want to go back and change them all. Blargh. We're going to be posting about politics so much more now though.

HE DOES LOOK YOUNG, man a lot has happened in the last three years! Although he's a little bit bad at delivering the punchlines, it's kiiiiiiiiiind of adorable.

I feel sort of silly for assuming politics was only something I'd mention in passing between tv shows, like sports or ~going to the theater~? DAMMIT SELF, you were just setting yourself up for the great pain of retagging.

ALL I WANT IS FOR NBC (or okay, fine, it's Rahm Emanuel, maybe HBO) TO TAKE SOME CAMERAS IN AND FOLLOW THEM AS THEY WALK AND BANTER THEIR WAY THROUGH HEALTHCARE, FOREIGN POLICY, AND THE ECONOMY. Is that really so much to ask, world?

Does it feel to you like this really is the real life West Wing? Idealism: Check. Witty, snarky banter:Check. Innappropriately good looking everyone: Check. Making the world a better place: Check. In any case, it's the closest we're going to get.

THIS IS KIND OF A STUPID THING TO EDIT TO ADD, BUT JEEBUS YOUR ICON IS PRETTY.

Uh, this time I edited because I apparently forgot how many seasons of the West Wing there actually are? OR SOMETHING?

Did you know that the reason he lost the finger (I MAY OR MAY NOT have spent my afternoon looking through old and new articles on Rahm Emanuel. MAY OR MAY NOT) was not so much because of the deli slicer but because he WENT SWIMMING IN LAKE MICHIGAN the night he cut himself and SOMEHOW INEXPLICABLY that lead to a bad infection.

How sad is it that I want to rewatch The West Wing again? I already did it during the campaign, but NOW OPTIMISM, HOPE, JED!!!

Also, I feel new TWW icons need to be found. Care to point me in the right direction?

Date: 2008-11-09 02:04 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] elapses.livejournal.com
LOL, I hope it's not sad because I've already started my random rewatch and the last time I went through one of these phases was, uh, August?

TWW icons are haaaaaaaard, there are definitely not enough pretty ones out there. But I really like what [livejournal.com profile] _jems_ does, and there are some lovely ones at [livejournal.com profile] runandnevertire and [livejournal.com profile] foursides.

Holy shit, this is awesome. we've always known that Barack (excuse me, Mr. President) is intelligent and super witty, but that roast demonstrates how much honesty there was in this campaign. He's the same guy now as he was in that video. And that shit is hysterical. His accident with the meat cutter in the deli rendered him practically mute? AMAZING. Not to mention I think their comraderie (I'm totally spelling that wrong but whatever) will go a long way in making them an excellent team.

Rahm is such a d-bag, and I mean that in the most flattering way. Between him and Biden, this White House is gonna not only be awesome, but a fucking barrel of insane laughs!

Date: 2008-11-09 01:54 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] elapses.livejournal.com
Mr. President-Elect, jeez, J, get your terminology right. But I agree! Times a thousand! They're going to go back and forth and mock and debate and yell (well, Rahm will yell) and shit is going to get DONE.

RAHM BEING A TWAT IS MY NEW FAVORITE THING, I will not lie. But Biden and his :D face are a close second.

Date: 2008-11-09 12:38 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] whalelines.livejournal.com
I remember Biden from when I was a teenager-- having grown up in the tri-state area (and only about 10 minutes from the First State!), Biden was a big face in local politics, and we thought even then that he was a total nutjob, but in a good way. Who'd have thought back then that he'd be our VP one day!

As for Rahm, I love his reputation for being a crazy axemurderer type of guy (the story about stabbing the knife in the table and naming all of Clinton's enemies is just ludicrous...and insanely funny, even if it is true) and I can't wait to see him get shit done.

I twittered this from the ABC website. It is GOLD.

Obama/Rahm = BFFs! They're like the quirky, opposites attract type of couple that are looove and awesome.

Someone mentioned that this was going to be the closest to The West Wing admin. that we will ever get and that was one of the first thoughts when I heard Rahm was going to be Chief of Staff.

This admin is so winsome, I sometimes get caught up in it.

SHHHHHHHHHHHH, we don't want Biden to overhear and get jealous :(

I forget how far into TWW you are, Amy? Did you ever finish? Because it's eerily related to the stuff that goes on in the later seasons and there's a fabulous NYT article on it, but I don't want to a) spoil you, or b) asshattily assume that you don't already know all about it.

I read the article and I know about the end of the series, I just haven't watched it all the way through yet.

I'm only through half of season five (I was super busy over summer so I couldn't finish the series -- campaigns took up most of my time) and now my internet is lame and won't let me download things anymore? It'll just stall or not get far and I don't know why. Split files are the best, or half hour shows, but I've been trying to get Mad Men and TWW to download but they won't. :(

Joe's too cool to be jealous, but I was listening to NPR about whether or not Barack would take his opinions and advice into account and it made me sort of sad. I think Barack will be true to his word and is surrounding himself with fierce, opinionated people for a reason. ♥

Date: 2008-11-09 02:22 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] elapses.livejournal.com
Well real politics would trump fictional politics like that sometimes. And plus it's so easy to get stalled in season 5. It took the writers awhiiiiiiiile to figure out what to do sans Sorkin. That sucks about your internet, though :(

What were they saying specifically on NPR? But I agree and that's one of my favorite things about Obama -- maybe he does lack foreign policy experience but I absolutely trust him to consult with multitudes of people who have it in droves.

I guess the point of the article was that some vice presidents are rendered obsolete and don't do much or get much time with the pres (I think they mentioned Bush Sr. and Gore post '98, maybe Quayle? I don't remember, but definitely comparing Gore term 1 and Gore term 2). They were just critiquing the amount of power a Biden VP would have in an Obama admin.

NPR is my getting-ready background noise of choice.

"Has he ever flashed that little stubby thing at you? It's appalling." YOU WIN, MISTER PRESIDENT-ELECT. YOU WIN.

Okay, so everyone and their brothers has probably said this in their comments already, but HOLY SHIT, THIS ADMINISTRATION! WHO NEEDS TELEVISION WHEN YOU HAVE FOUR STRAIGHT YEARS OF THIS? Thank you so much for sharing, I'm literally sitting here laughing my ass off. Between Rahm and Joey B and Barack's prim and proper and insanely adorable comedic skillz, I don't know how I'm going to get through the next four years without driving myself crazy with joy. I am just so happy with his choices so far, oh my goodness. They need to have monthly press conferences, just in general. I don't know I'LL HOLD A PARTY FOR EACH ONE, FOR REAL.

I also have to say when I first saw this post, I just saw Barack's face and the word fly and I was all, "MHMM" because FJDSLKFJDKSJFKDLJFKD I HAVE SUCH A CRUSH ON HIM, IT'S ALMOST EMBARRASSING.

DUDE, it's seriously insanely adorable how Barack is up there half-ruining totally hilarious jokes. Actually maybe that's what makes them so hilarious. I DON'T KNOW, I JUST WANT TO WATCH IT OVER AND OVER AGAIN. BUT YES, OHMYGOD-- SCREW TERM LIMITS AND FICTIONAL THINGS, I suddenly just want this and them foreeeeeeever.

AND LOOOOOOOOOOOL, you are my favorite.

I KNOW! And the line in your subject in which he TOTALLY CRACKS HIMSELF UP. He's just so cute. I know he's our big tough president, but he's also just A REALLY CUTE MAN. When I saw that video, the video of his first press conference where he completely deadpanned the whole part about Sasha and Malia's new puppy, and this photo where he's clearly mid-blink (http://www.daylife.com/photo/0gDw6M6cJ2fEl/Barack_Obama) I literally squealed OUT LOUD: "OMFG OUR NEW PRESIDENT IS SO ADORABLE."

I may or may not have a serious problem here.

For some reason I do not interpret that as a blink so much as a smirky smug (uh, except those aren't the right words for what I mean to express? I can't think of synonyms for smug or smirk that carry more positive connotations?) face? EITHER WAY, AWWW.

BUT I DON'T KNOW. I'm just... really pleased at the array of personalities that are going to occupy 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue come 2009. JOERAHMBAMA!

...huh, I guess ship names aren't any less disgusting when they're meant platonically :(

No, I think I know what you mean! I don't know, when I see it, all I think is "mmmmm, cookies." Which probably furthers the whole HE'S TOO YOUNG AND INEXPERIENCED argument, but I DON'T CARE, WE ALREADY WON THIS SHIT.

For some reason, I'm slightly less disgusted by ship names when they're platonic? I vote for Jorahmabama. It has a special ring to it, IMO.

A week ago I might've still been fired up enough to pull some leftover "I CAN'T BELIEVE THEY CONTINUE TO CRY LACK OF EXPERIENCE WHEN PALIN IS ROUNDING OUT THEIR TICKET" indignation out of my ass, but now it's just funny. LOL @ YOU AND YOUR SAD LACK OF ELECTORAL VOTES, MR. MCCAIN.

It's pretty hilarious, I forgot Sarah Palin even existed on Election Day. It wasn't until I was doing my MSNBC Hardball/Countdown run through the next day when I was all LOL OH YEAH, HER. I feel kind of bad for her now though? The way the GOP is throwing her under the rails is pretty despicable. Yeah, I hate her with pretty much every fiber of my being, but I still think it's wrong to do this to her especially considering they FUCKING CHOSE HER TO BE VP. It's just further proof of how they've completely lost their moral compass. I wish some decent, normal people in the republican party would stand up and say enough to all this bullshit.

Haaaaa, amazing! I might just have to add it as well at some point.

The McCain campaign was a wreck, they took a Republican who, four years ago, looked to be a sane, moderate-leaning, decent member of the party, told him he had to appeal to the Republican base, and then stepped aside and let us watch as he fucked himself over. And yeah, Sarah Palin-- I feel bad for her too. But I kind of feel like that's just the magic of the Republican party? The number of youtube videos I've watched today of Rahm calling various party leaders on their bullshit (WHEN DID THIS BECOME MY LIFE?) maaaaaaaay be skewing my world view today, though.

It also makes me want to watch West Wing, since I've seen random episodes here and there and totes loved it, but I stillllll haven't finished XFiles lol :P
