I have this unicorn.

You see, when I started watching Friday Night Lights with my mom, she offhandedly mentioned how much she loved Kyle Chandler in some show about the forties she and Dad used to watch. My response was something like, "oh, Early Edition? I don't think that was about the forties, Mom", and then, idk, I guess we had to cry about whatever was happening in the episode so we dropped it. Still, the only TV shows I remember my parents ever watching when I was young are Seinfeld, Star Trek: the Next Generation, and that one show about Alaska whose name is escaping me at the moment, and those were all followed pretty spottily because we as a family were above serial fiction and the way it suspends consumers for profit (my Dad was in his full-on, twenty-something, pretentious douchey "hippie" phase), and so, eventually, I looked into it.

YOU GUYS, THIS IS AN ACTUAL SHOW:

I guess perhaps not everyone has grown up as enamored with the 1940s as I have, so maybe you don't quite understand that this silly little theme song has my inner obsessor full-on salivating (although this is perhaps also simply because it is a theme song: I LOVE DORKY THEME SONGS, you guys, and they are so unfortunately untrendy these days). ALL THE FAMILIAR FACES ARE SIMPLY ICING ON THE CAKE. There's also this... clip thing, which is so enjoyable it makes the whole thing worse.

Worse because in the age of amazon, netflix, youtube, hulu, and various other methods of procuring any television episode you want IT DOES NOT EXIST. It has disappeared into the abyss, spawning only this plea to Warner brothers to release a DVD set (IT ALSO HAS DELIGHTFUL CLIPS, THOUGH, YOU GUYS: COACH TAYLOR IS DEEPLY IN LOVE WITH AN ADORABLE GIRL! LILY VAN DER WOODSEN IS A BADASS) and a handful of disgruntled internet users, fussing about cancellation and how much money they would spend if such a DVD set did exist. Unfortunately I am now one of these fools. DAMN IT, just the teensy bit I have seen has me deeply in the throes of love. BUT I WILL SEE IT SOMEHOW. I WILL FIND THE DAMN UNICORN.

Ugh, I do not know what to request for Yuletide with Psych eliminated this year. BLERG.

Wow. I think I saw an episode of that once a long time ago. Probably your only chance of finding it at this point would be on VHS on ebay or a fansite or something. :(

Luckily this is apparently just a case of me being dumb and not of it actually not existing-- turns out it's on youtube.

UGGGGGGH I have devoted so much effort to finding Homefront for myself/my mother, HOW IS ANYTHING THAT INACCESSIBLE IN THIS DAY AND AGE. [Incidentally, I'm pretty sure it's a Yuletide fandom, not that that's helpful given how elusive the episodes are.]

SO HAD I, DUDE, I have spent months fretting over this. Apparently my google fu is weak, though, because it took [livejournal.com profile] cantbesilent no time at all to find a STC link (http://www.surfthechannel.com/show/77835.html) that indicates the whole damn thing is up on youtube.

OH MY GOD I THINK YOU JUST MADE MY LIFE.

COACH TAYLOR. LILY VAN DER WOODSEN. Why are these DVDs not available to me RIGHT NOW? If you find a way to see this, you NEED to let me know. Because suddenly, my life seems INCOMPLETE without it. (That is all).

OKAY, it has been dug up by people cleverer than I -- there's a surfthechannel link below and this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OAg7364g7Oc&feature=related) is where it starts on youtube.

OH, CHANDS.

I only know about this show because of my Chandler love, but I kind of wish it was out on DVD? I'd marathon it in a heartbeat. I also wish I owned Early Edition on DVD, because seriously, I was so in love with that show back in the day, I'd stay home on Friday nights and watch him save people over and over. It was amazing.

I remember the commercials for Early Edition, but I never watched it! Someday I will, though, he's so flawless in everything. The adorable thing about (what I've seen of) Homefront versus FNL though, is that in Homefront he is the young thing looking up to his coach for advice. Different sport, but the role reversal is kind of strange and sweet.

OMG I used to love this show so much. I think the Hallmark channel was showing the reruns a few years ago, which of course stopped as soon as I got the channel. I remember when Early Edition started I was like "hey it's that dude from Homefront!" Why is it not on DVD? Or being rerun somewhere?

Because some higher power hates us? I guess? Somewhere in all the searching I found some suggestion that the music rights are what's preventing them from doing it, which makes sense because it seems like it would only make them money, but blarf. I can't think of another show I'd drop money on without having seen an entire episode.

Wow that show looks awesomely cheesy and adorable. I may have to watch that someday. I loved Kyle Chandler back in the Early Edition days. My grandmother is picky about television shows so all I could really watch with her was Early Edition, Touched By An Angel, and Promised Land. He'll always bring back memories for me lol

And aw. Grandparents are so funny about their TV. My grandfather loved Sex and the City, he called them "his girls".
