Hello dead weekend livejournal! I have kind of invented a meme. Well, "invented" is probably a strong word, I'd be super surprised if something like this has never ever been done before. But it's a kind of um, experiment to see how much information we accidentally pick up from reading our friendslist, but that makes it sound lame, and I THINK IT WILL BE LULZY TOO.

ANYWAY: what I want you to do is name a show I don't watch (if you want me to list the things I do like I will, but I think most of you have a decent idea of what I'm into and if you don't it's pretty well outlined in my interests -- OH, except for Psych, that's... recent and I've now seen enough that it would be cheating) and I will try to describe it to you (looking things up is obviously cheating, it's a test to see what random things have been picked up).


I'm actually equally (almost more?) enthused about the idea of feeding people shows though, so if you're bored too you should totally play on your own.

DUDE SO I HAVE THIS TOTALLY IRRATIONAL SET OF REASONS FOR NOT WATCHING BATTLESTAR GALACTICA, which is a) I don't really like science fiction, b) when I do like science fiction I like it lulzy and not serious, c) Ronald D. Moore has said at some point it was a reaction to how Star Trek: Voyager should have been and like... Voyager is suuuuuuuuuuper lame but it is also my favorite thing so I AM PERFECTLY HAPPY LETTING IT BE MY SCIENCE FICTION SHOW.

Huh, most of what I know about Boston Legal is the cast: there's William Shatner and Candice Bergen. And they have law cases! And in the end, William Shatner gets gay married to that dude whose face I CAN SO CLEARLY SEE but whose name I do not know. Well, it might be Denny Crane but I actually think that's the Shatner character.

Okay so I've seen the first season and a half of Buffy but none of the rest of it, so that first bit is off the table.

Um, geez, though-- at some point in the ensuing seven seasons Buffy is torn between Angel and Spike, her sister starts figuring into things, Giles falls in love with a woman named Jenny who eventually dies, I'm sure Joss Whedon randomly kills other people off as he feels like it, Willow has a lesbian relationship and I think becomes a witch...? Also possibly evil?, everyone continues hunting down vampires and kicking ass, there is a musical episode which I keep meaning to watch, and there is great fandom dispute about which seasons are terrible and which seasons are wonderful. Three is supposed to be awesome, and five or six or seven is supposed to be the worst...?

UM, THOSE TOTALLY ARE REALLY IRRATIONAL REASONS AND I DON'T LIKE THEM, and one day when you do finally bow to pressure and watch, you will beat yourself up for keeping it at arm's length for so long, and I am dead serious here. :( :( :( IT TRANSCENDS GENRE, SERIOUSLY. IT IS THE GREATEST SHOW. And there are hot people! You would love Kara so much, I bet. She's your blonde-type. AND OBVIOUSLY LEE.

Ahem. Anyway. Okay, you did well! Yeah, Shatner is Denny. And they're not actually gay; I wasn't sure if you thought that or not. They just take advantage of the fact that they legally can marry, but it's a friendship thing. And he's played by James Spader. BTW, if you're looking for lulzy, Boston Legal is SO IT (although it is not science fiction).

You know I totally meant to watch Boston Legal when it started but I only watched one episode and then just got lazy? And I honestly didn't know a lot about the gay marriage thing-- they didn't seem gay to me and I half thought it was a joke, but... I guess that makes sense.

OH GEEZ, these are hard. I know almost nothing about Coupling UK, except that it is one of those shows about a set of adult friends and their relationships, but I also think it's... edgy isn't the right word, but I think the tone is very different than, say, "Friends". I also think I would enjoy it a lot if I got around to watching it.

In Queer as Folk, Brian and Justin are really pretty (um, according to me, not what I've heard) and also in love. Brian is kind of a ~bad boy~ type. There's some interesting exploration of homophobia. Which I guess is par the course for a well-written show about gay men. I also think of this show as something you in particular hold very close to your heart, but... I guess that isn't really part of a summary.

I haven't heard anything about Billable Hours at all. But Merlin! Um, it's one of those Brit shows about the past (I say "one of those", but I think the only other current one is "Robin Hood"). It is pretty obviously based on Arthurian legend, and pretty much everyone loves Arthur/Merlin. The Guinevere character is some kind of servant in the castle, though, which has caused some kerfuffle in the fandom. Aaaaand there's Morgana.

THEY ARE. THEY ARE THE PRETTIEST/MY FAVOURTIEST SHIP! it is definitely a show you hold close to your heart, everyone i know loves it to pieces. it made me teary-eyed out of HAPPINESS. which i thought was not possible.

billable hours is a canadian show about lawyers. it's also hilarious, kind of like the office but not really. it's kind of edgy, i guess (but again, not really), it's just brilliant. although i've only watched the first season so i don't know if it loses it streak or not. anyway, it's on showcase which is the canadian version of showtime just not as ~racy. i only know about it because a guy from queer as folk made it! omg you used the word keruffle, i love you. i have a weird fascination with that word and get so excited whenever people use it! i haven't heard any kerfuffle over it probably because i'm pretty much focused on arthur/merlin. yes. morgana is pretty.

lolol it's cool. it's from forever ago, imdb can probably tell you more than i can, it's just that there's very little i watch that you don't. but basically it had whatshisface - the lead guy in burn notice - and some chick, and whatshisface was an fbi-ish person who like got shot in the head and then started working again and had weird visionesque feeling things, i think, and there was creepy music that made me nervous watching the show but i always watched it anyways, and i sort of loved it, and then it went off the air but i had something the night of the season finale - which as it turned out was the end of the series - and they never replayed it and i never found out what happened and it's not on dvd and that was like five years ago and i am BITTER.

MAN, that sounds entertaining, I wonder why I've never heard of it. And kerfuffle is a DELIGHTFUL word, I don't know why more people don't use it. I AGREE THOUGH, Morgana is lovely.
