I have no icon that is appropriately related to this post (...yet), so Joey says hey.

THINGS THAT MAKE ME HAPPY:

Guys. Guys. What did we do before youtube came into existence? Before youtube was laden with clips of absolutely everything you could possibly want, how did we fangirl properly? In order to see this scene I haven't seen since the tender age of three, I would have had to drive to the Video Station, pay $3 for Roberta, and then drive back to my house. Instead, a few clicks and I am watching Fred and Ginger dance prettily JUST LIKE THAT. (Also randomly of youtubish note: Hugh Laurie as Vincent Minnelli in a crappy made-for-TV Judy Garland biopic. Ahahahaha.)

So I just finished "Roman Holiday" and. Um. I had maintained some sort of Gossip Girl aloofness until this moment, wherein I could tell myself that I was only invested in less than half of the plotlines and I could tell the family members and friends who mocked me for watching it in the living room that yes, okay, the Kristen Bell voiceovers were lame as hell and Nate was really boring and his family storyline was very whatever and OF COURSE I am only watching it because there was this one guy who name-dropped my favorite favorite book while courting his very lovely Upper East Side blonde, and now... I don't know. I think I am won over :(

By the way, you guys, what do normal people take for colds? I STILL HAVE THIS CRAPPY COLD, and when I asked my sister's not-quite boyfriend this morning what people who have not grown up with hippie parents and homeopathic rememdies buy at the supermarket when they are going through a tissue box an hour he said Emergen-C. Which only serves to prove to me why Whole Foods is busier in this town than all of the regular stores combined.

AHHHHHH, you guys, HAPPY 2008! I am super excited for the books I have decided to read this year, for everyone's information!

Dan and The Crying of Lot 49? Haha.

And I'm with you on Gossip Girl. Idk, out of nowhere it became good and I fell in love with everyone and I want Dan for myself. And I'm like super invested and shit.

[identity profile] elapses.livejournal.com 2008-01-03 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
HAHA, yes. I was weirdly excited about that moment! He was casually mentioning it and I was !!!!!!!!!!!ing silently. It was... slightly lame.

You are so right about it coming out of nowhere! When I finished the Pilot I was so underwhelmed with almost everything I almost didn't bother with the second episode. And now I don't even know!

[identity profile] celicagirl06.livejournal.com 2008-01-03 04:31 am (UTC)(link)
-I love love love the videos you posted. I was like hmmm..remember when guys were somewhat classy, and being in movies required talent. *sigh*

-Uhhh when I have a cold I usually take Sudafed.

-Happy 2008 to you too! (I am also compiling a list of books to read for the year =D)

[identity profile] elapses.livejournal.com 2008-01-03 05:01 am (UTC)(link)
I wish I really actually remembered those days, but instead I guess we will have to relive them by watching Fred Astaire. And Sudafed! I know I've heard of that. Thank you.

OOH, are you going to post your list? Mine is semi-short, actually, so I'd love things to add to it!

[identity profile] celicagirl06.livejournal.com 2008-01-03 07:30 pm (UTC)(link)
You're welcome! =)

I'll probably post my reading list at some point.

[identity profile] modernthirst.livejournal.com 2008-01-03 05:43 am (UTC)(link)
Fred & Ginger! I used to watch their movies all the time when I was little. Delightful!

AND I KNEW YOU WOULD, I KNEW THAT WOULD HAPPEN TO YOU. Excellent, Alex. We can stay friends.

(also it looks like you got help with the cold thing but I'd also recommend Cold-Eeze, they're cough droppy things with zinc in them that are clinically proven to reduce the duration of a common cold. /commercial)

[identity profile] elapses.livejournal.com 2008-01-03 05:58 am (UTC)(link)
They are so lovely and they made up such a large part of my formative years! I think I have trouble letting go of anything I ever really loved. But I do love that fiction can work like time travel in that way!

I AM SO PREDICTABLE IN THAT WAY, but I do not even care anymore! When JP mocked me for watching it in the middle of a Lily/Rufus scene (who I kind of really love!) I told him I was sorry he hated fun. And it is fun! Yay Josh Schwartz.

Excellent! Apparently there are all sorts of cold remedies outside my hippie box.

I thought you meant THE Roman Holiday, Hepburn/Peck style! (That film is ace, and I normally don't like "classics").

[identity profile] elapses.livejournal.com 2008-01-05 08:55 pm (UTC)(link)
That is an ace film! I'm really not a huge Audrey Hepburn fan, but it is A+. But no. I was not watching old classics, I was watching teen trash TV.

I knoooooooow! There's just so much there? It is big and vast and full of almost everything I ever wanted to see. Oh, youtube.

FRED AND GINGER YAY

[identity profile] elapses.livejournal.com 2008-01-05 08:58 pm (UTC)(link)
ONE OF US NEEDS TO MAKE A FRED & GINGER ICON STAT.

Kristen Bell voice overs are mehhhh but I love GG anyway!!! I take Airborne and Advil: Cold and Sinus.

Happy New Year's!!

[identity profile] elapses.livejournal.com 2008-01-05 09:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm glad you like GG tooooo, it sort of reminds me of that time WAY LONG AGO when we both loved the O.C.! And thank you!

[identity profile] sleuths.livejournal.com 2008-01-04 06:40 am (UTC)(link)
I ask myself that question about YouTube every day now that I go on it... every day. I really do not know how we got along without it.

Also! I watched some fifteen minutes of Gossip Girl the other day and I am sad to admit that it has somewhat sucked me in as well. Must be all the prettiness, I think.

Eeep I'm sorry to hear about your cold :( I take Robitussin and it works all right. It helps when it's accompanied by many glasses of water and orange juice and hours of sleep, too!

HAPPY 2008!

[identity profile] elapses.livejournal.com 2008-01-05 09:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think I really want to know how we did. The youtube era is pretty nice!

It is oddly memsmerizing like that?

Oooooh, thank you! Apparently there is a world of cold care outside of my hippie town bubble.

Just commenting quickly -- before my hour of Internet runs out -- asking if you could e-mail me? I was hoping to contact you while I'm here in Vancouver, and then I realized I don't have an e-mail for you, so this is the only way I know of!

Anyway, just let me know whether/when you'll be here, and what's going on with that. The quickest way to reach me is via e-mail, though I'm only able to check once (at most, twice) a day. I may hop back on later tonight, depending on what I do today. Talk to you soon! :)

[identity profile] conifranoh.livejournal.com 2008-01-04 07:29 pm (UTC)(link)
hahaha

It happened the same way with Gossip Girl for me :P

[identity profile] elapses.livejournal.com 2008-01-05 09:15 pm (UTC)(link)
IT JUST CREEPS UP ON YOU. God damn it.

[identity profile] luminoso.livejournal.com 2008-01-07 03:43 am (UTC)(link)
I could literally watch them dance ALL day, it's so beautiful and wonderful.

Also, I've found myself becoming weirdly addicted to Gossip Girl. It's kind of terrible, beacuse it's really not that great a show and yet I find myself so drawn into it.

[identity profile] elapses.livejournal.com 2008-01-07 03:48 am (UTC)(link)
BELIEVE ME, I have watched this youtube video a SICK, SICK number of times since I posted it. I am my own enabler, but at least my drug of choice is watching Fred and Ginger dance! But I'm glad I'm a little bit not alone. Have you seen that preeeeeeetty dance from the end of... the one with the title about sailors or something (ahahah, look how descriptive I am!). It's somewhere on youtube and it is the PRETTIEST THING!

Gossip Girl just sort of twists you in like that? It is weird, but I feel the exact same way. It's really really not good, but I have so much fun while watching it? I mean, I think I have five icons now :( HELP.

[identity profile] luminoso.livejournal.com 2008-01-07 04:40 am (UTC)(link)
Ahhh I know the video you're talking about, I can't remember the name of it either. Hahah, go us! I'm glad our memories work so well. But yes drug of choice is def. watching Fred and Ginger dance :P

Oh Gossip Girl, you're so weirdly addictive.

[identity profile] elapses.livejournal.com 2008-01-07 04:43 am (UTC)(link)
AHAHAHA, well. At least we are managing to communicate in our own lacking way. Now I want to go watch it! Clearly I have a problem.
