So remember how that night the first XF2 promo photo came out EVERY SINGLE PERSON who remotedly loved the show made a post that consisted of little more than !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and the pictures themselves reuploaded to their image host of choice? We were so ridiculously spammy that it almost looped back around to charming again? AND IT WAS GREAT?

I have since been weirdly terrified that any repeat experience would ruin the first one. Indeeeed, I have refrained from bringing up any of the other promo pictures here (except for the Wondercon ones, which, SHUT UP, was totally important, as I had a grainy cell phone photo to show everyone, PLUS GILLIAN PICKED LINT OFF DAVID, ergo -- IMPORTANT EVENT), because after the second or third time it shows up on my friends list, my (wet blanket) reaction is "god, you guys, HOW MANY EXCLAMATION POINTS DO YOU WANT OUT OF ME?"

Well, no more, my friends. This picture (this picture!!!) DOES THINGS TO ME. When I first saw it, it literally took me a full minute to start processing words again. It's unbelivably intimate and intoxicating and perfect, and even though we've all got it set as our desktop background by now, you cannot deny it deserves to be crossposted across the internet as many times as possible.




AND HEY, GUYS: I am genuinely curious as to what the first thought that ran through your head when you saw this was? Was it even a thought?

Somewhat related question: are there other TV shows that have at least once exploited foreheads as a way to express affection? I thought there were -- I think I remember, on more than one occasion, telling someone two fictional people were "pulling a Mulder and Scully", but I cannot for the life of me remember who, when, and where?!

(I swear to god, in most of those intervening years, THEIR FOREHEADS saw more action than they did. Forehead kisses were their bizarro way of saying "I love you! And I want to share this INTIMATE MOMENT with you! But it's not... like that. Which is why we aren't kissing on the lips! [subtextual sexual tension]" I swear to god, no other show has ever put sex on that high of a pedestal. There is no way their first time measured up to the zillions and zillions of fantasties they must've been having about each other since season one, no matter how many fanfiction authors believe the contrary. Unresolved sexual tension as realized by the X-Files is simultaneously the very very best and most excruciating gift television has ever given me.)

Lol the first thing I did when I saw the picture was inhaled. And didn't breathe for about a minute afterwards? There was possible brain damage involved.

I don't even understand. They could give us a picture of them having sex and it wouldn't even begin to compare to the intimacy involved in that goddamn forehead intimacy. IT IS SO AMAZING, I CAN'T EVEN DEAL.

HOW WERE YOU ABLE TO PUT TOGETHER THIS MANY WORDS AND STILL BE REMOTELY COHERENT? I've gotten a decent night's sleep between first seeing this photo and checking out your post, and I'm still just EXCLAMATION POINTS & CAPS LOCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. The first thing that ran through my head was probably !@#@*($)&#@*%)&$*%^$*@)&$#*@)$# (in the best possible way) followed shortly by HOLY SHIT THEY ARE ALL GROWN UP AND SO FUCKING HOT! Look at them! Between Mulder's stubble and Scully's long hair, I'm just beyond saving. The expression on Mulder's face is what really kills me though. Scully's too, OBVS, but moreso the Muld-man.

OKAY, CHECK IT: with respect to UST and XF-- in my book THIS IS THE ONLY SHOW THAT EVER GOT IT RIGHT. I have never watched a single television show or seen a single movie where the main couple is able to maintain their chemistry and charisma and all that wonderful stuff after they got together. But here, as painful as it was, it is PURE GENIUS to never really have them ~*~**~HOOK UP LOLZ~*~*~* over seven years because it keeps that level of electricity running high, you know? Every little glance and touch and intonation is that much more powerful. And even when you know they're doing it at the end of season 7, because we don't actually SEE IT, there's still that level of intrigue and just AMAZINGNESS. It almost makes it wrong for us to even ever see these two be more intimate than touching foreheads (or the occasional kiss) because it's something so private and personal for them and OH MY GOD I'M TALKING ABOUT THESE GUYS AS IF THEY ARE REAL.

I agree COMPLETELY. There are so many television shows that initially set up their UST couple -- and they simply cannot maintain it. In a vast majority of cases, after two or three seasons, the fact that they're still not together gets ridiculous -- and a lot of them cave even before that?? But Mulder and Scully -- I don't know how, but they did it. I had the same silent concerns, so you're not alone! And yes! This photo definitely calmed all my fears. The angles in the other shots definitely weren't flattering, especially with respect to David. But their hotness came through in the clutch, so I think we've got nothing to worry about.

It makes it SO WEIRD to re-watch the wee-days of season 2 because they are ENTIRELY DIFFERENT PEOPLE now. And yeah, it's weird to watch s2 with s7-9 in mind, but something about these photos just makes it infinitely stranger. It just reminds me even more how young they are how much they've yet to go through and how FUCKING INTENSE their relationship will become. THEY HAVE NO IDEA! ITS SO AWESOME! YES! TO EVERYTHING! And I was thinking about this as I was making coffee yesterday, that it's SO FUCKING AMAZING how these characters' private life is literally PRIVATE. We are not privy to 90% of the intimacy they share, and yet what we are privy to speaks VOLUMES. The "Per Manum" scene always gives me chills because it feels so wrong to intrude on such a private moment between these two, but also for me, that scene in the motel room in "Requiem." Not only does it break my heart (for obvious reasons) but it's such a deliberate and intimate display of affection that should be just there's but we're like these weird voyeurs watching their every move? Yeah, the shuttle is the AB bus -- rtd-denver.com will have times and route info and all that. It's a $10 ride.

I really think you'll be fine without a car -- Boulder has SUPER public transportation for a town of this size. You might consider getting a bus pass, though? Maybe? Although it's pretty easy to walk places, too, and campus is pretty centrally located.
