Not in America!

([livejournal.com profile] veils said the exact same thing though, so. Seems pretty common in countries with more British-y English.)

I don't know about elsewhere but this is definitely a common Australian phrase haha. And yes, for the record, my room is usually a tip. ;D

Yeah so I've figured out! But I seriously hadn't heard of that particular slang term before tonight.

Ha, don't worry. I confuse people with Australian slang ALL the time. We seem to excel at that lolol.

What does tip mean to you guys? Tip is the name for rubbish dumps here, and not just slang, it's the actual name! I love this though because if you asked anyone in Australia "what word would you use to describe a messy room" tip would definitely be it.

I would use "tip" to refer to gratuity on a bill, the end of something like a finger or a pencil, or a like... piece of advice that would help someone do something. Nothing remotely trash-related! I can't think of what we even do call a trash dump other than a trash dump. But it's not even odd that you guys call it that, what's odd to me is that it's apparently so common and I have honestly never heard it before in my life. And I don't seem to be the only one! I feel like people are usually more... aware of slang like that, I don't know? I would never call my sneakers trainers, but if someone used that in a sentence I would totally know what it means.
