INTERNET: I am so mad at you all for voting for Mulder(/Skinner/Krycek/ALL THOSE OTHER FREAKS) over Scully in Fandom Steel Cage Match March Madness.

Okay, look. I get it. I understand. WE ARE ALL LADIES HERE, and occasionally it just happens. Sometimes it's easy to be tempted away by the manmeat:

(although seriously if the one you're so entranced by is not in the middle YOU HAVE A PROBLEM)

BUT CAN YOU REALLY LOOK YOURSELF IN THE MIRROR TOMORROW KNOWING YOU VOTED AGAINST THIS???????:

I DIDN'T THINK SO. (You should probably all just off yourselves now.)

Oh, I know what you mean. I tend to get defensive on the other one's behalf if one of them is being lavished with praise, so I totally hear you.

Here's the thing: it's totally not Scully. Which, I get it, she's drugged, that's the point. But I don't think that's what Scully would be like if drugged or drunk or otherwise incapacitated. I see too much Gillian in it. Just looking at the caps annoys me! (I would possibly feel differently about the whole thing if Mulder were present for it, so there's that, I guess.)

I have this problem too.

Well, yes, no, it's not Scully. But it isn't just a drug or just alcohol, it's a specific scifi handwavey drug that completely suppresses higher brain function and promote suggestibility (er, can you tell this episode was on cable last week?). It's meant to make brainless victims that you can talk into suicide or assassination. I'd like to think whoever wrote the episode had that and not "what Scully would be like if she'd had a few too many" in mind when they wrote it, but then, I'm forgiving: I always respond to XF's little... issues with more handwavey retconning than nitpicking; I'm kind of happiest when I get to ignore the fact that there are writers and directors and actors who work on the show and have their own intentions and change things and occasionally handle Mulder and Scully with less than the delicacy than they deserve.

But now that I think about it, the handful of (truly terrible) what-if-Mulder-was-actually-in-Vegas-and-got-to-see-drugged!Scully fics I've read all got it horribly wrong when they treated it in their "and hilarity ensues" kind of way: I think it would actually mostly be sad.
