So I was running kind of late and didn't get to watch it live (I got home and walked in in the middle of the Boomer/Adama/Tigh flashback all "I CAN TOTALLY JUMP IN IN THE MIDDLE, IT'LL BE FINE" but maybe 30 seconds later I realized it wasn't fine at all and I would just have to wait for the download). So it was like 3 in the morning when I finally got to see it, and when it sort of faded to black after the scene with Adama and Roslin's grave I snapped my computer shut all "SWEET, I'M GOING TO SLEEP NOW" and didn't even realize there was more episode until this morning when I was reading reaction posts.

UGH I WISH I COULD HAVE LIVED IN IGNORANT BLISS AND NOT HAVE EVER KNOWN THAT STUPID ~AND NOW ON MODERN EARTH~ PART EXISTED. This morning I was thinking about how most of my finale issues were not actually issues with the finale itself at all but things that had been previously screwed up (Boomer, the final five), minor issues with all the puzzle pieces not quite fitting together, little things. As an episode and as a finale, I mostly really liked it.

Except even then I was kind of annoyed about the whole "Earth" thing. The "Earth is a dream" scene was sweet all by itself, but within the context of "let's breed with the indigenous locals! And spread ourselves out! And ~give them the good parts of ourself~!" just... wasn't what I wanted. I always liked the kind of alternate universe quality BSG had to it, what with the destroyed Earth and all the Kobol mythology tied back into our own constellations, and I hate that they felt they had to bring it back to this planet with our exact continents. YOU CAN IMAGINE HOW MUCH WORSE I FEEL ABOUT THIS WHOLE THING NOW THAT I HAVE SEEN THAT LAST SCENE.

Just.................................... BLERG. How unnecessary. AND HOW SENSELESS. Seriously linguistically (if we're meant to believe they "gave" us English) and astronomically (OUR FREAKING CONSTELLATIONS) and just ANTHROPOLOGICALLY IN GENERAL it just DOESN'T MAKE SENSE AT ALL and that stupid little robot montage at the end and just, god, why do we have to be part of this universe???????? IT SHOULD HAVE JUST ENDED WITH THEM.

WHATEVER, otherwise I was pretty happy with it. I was so sure Helo was dead for those fortyish minutes (although I keep wondering if it was actually that long or if being stressed about the future of my Agathons made it seem longer) that it was messing with my ability to just watch the episode, though-- I was so upset when Kara showed up on the bridge because when he told Athena to run off I TOTALLY trusted her to take care of him. I think I am going to choose to believe that she was the one to get him to sickbay before she ran off to furfill her special destiny, actually.

Oh, and re: Kara-- I was pretty okay with her ambiguous ending. And you know what? Even if we are meant to believe that her human body died on actual!Earth, whatever it was that came back was Kara Thrace.

ANYWAY,
IN CONCLUSION,
the scene with the cane and the hunting jokes and the way it kind of tied back to the start was all I could have asked for. If it hadn't taken place in our own freaking Africa >:( WHYYYYYYYYYYYY.

I KNOW. I HAVE ALWAYS HATED THE IDEA OF THEM LANDING ON OUR EARTH AND FINDING DINOSAURS OR NEANDERTHALS AND SHIT. AND THEN THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED AND I WAS LIKE, "FUCK YOU." my idea was better - that the show took place so far in our future that we mythologized our own history. and one of the things that made the end of "revelations" so powerful is that we thought it was our earth. people thought it looked like a bombed-out new york city when that episode first aired, for godssake!

I WAS SO SCARED HELO WAS DEAD, OMG. :( But I didn't watch the very ending because I was bored and no one else wanted to watch it with me so they were all complaining about it so idk what actually happened. I was kind of unimpressed with everyone suddenly being a Luddite and breeding with locals and shit, weeeeird. And lame.

I was also really unimpressed with that scene of Adama puking in the alley at the beginning DNW EVER TY.

Despite being really behind in BSG, I watched the finale as it aired. Lemme tell you, I was ready to flip a goddamn pool when Helo got shot and Athena left him and then they didn't mention him for again for like an HOUR WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT. I kind of get the feeling they had intended on killing him off, but rethought it and shot that adorable stuff at the end really quick. It seemed tacked-on. Cute, but tacked on.

And that is the extent of my thoughts on the finale.

I... kind of liked it? Yeah, it was basically, "okay, if you haven't gotten the message yet, allow us to HIT YOU OVER THE HEAD WITH IT." But I thought it was cool. Everyone seems to be divided half and half over that.

I really think they were going to kill Helo, then decided not to? I choose to believe Kara saved him too, because they are awesome bffs. I was just glad to see them being all happy at the end. You know, inbetween sobbing over Roslin, and Adama/Roslin, and freaking out over Kara. I thought that was the best ending for her, but I was still so surprised.

Also, I choose to believe that cylons don't age and hung around to make us who we are. That makes more sense to me.
