"Parabiosis" is beauuuuuutiful, and so much the epitome of everything I feel like fanfiction should be. I don't think anything could ever quite top it, and it's one of those stories that absolutely earned it's place in fandom history instead of sort of stumbling into infamy.

I never liked Penumbra's other stories nearly as much, but I think it's because I read them right after I read "Parabiosis" and they just didn't quite have the same cohesive loveliness.
Heh, I gave myself time to digest "Parabiosis" before attacking anything else she wrote. That said, I love them all, but I think they're all very different (again, an admirable and rare writing quality). I think my second favourite is probably "Contact High". It's the kind of fic that makes me want to crawl inside her brain, just to know what it's like to think and write the way she does. (But yeah, looking at her site? (GAH, even the site design is brilliant!) I've read and love them all. And one day -- ONE DAY -- I hope "Upsidasium" surfaces somewhere. I've never read it, and I don't think I know anyone who has. SOMEDAY.)
Happy fic is an emotional experience too, god damn it.
Totally agreed! I have a lot of respect for happy!fic that's good, because in many ways, with such an emotional and often angsty show like XF, happy!fic is probably the hardest to write in a manner that doesn't come across as trite or false. Credit where credit's due, by all means.
