I went and read everything and wanted so bad to join, but knew that if I did I would start commenting all the time, and then where would I be? I have a reputation to protect, you know! Don't worry, I am probably even more boring! I was really active on LJ during high school, but for the past year I've sort of slipped. Hopefully I'll be posting more this summer!
It was the viewing parties that did me in, and the elevator rumor. I thought I was a good person, who could separate characters from actors and turn her nose at the crazy livejournal world of rpf-dom, but it turns out I'm really not. I guess the dark side is at least entertaining?
Oh well, I love boring people anyway. But I'm sure you will! Summer is nothing if not an invitation to spend too much time on the internet.
The dark side is, like, a years-long fascination. I think D/G RPF is so much more off-limits in XF fandom (compared to the other fandoms that sort of made it acceptable) because A) in the beginning, there were such close connections between the fans and the crew in Vancouver and B) D&G themselves didn't treat it like a joke, and the press actually made it an issue, and the things they SAID ABOUT EACH OTHER! It's frosty, we're not friends. Yeah, she's been to my house... not that I was there at the time. We're sort of soulmates.

Dude, sorry to be spamming your friends only entry like this. But since I'm already doing it, would you be interested in joining our Super Sekrit Elite community, xf_syndicate? We made it for all the cool kids back when xfiles was run by other people and the idiot fangirling was intolerable, but it tends to be a bit sleepy.
It is so much more off-limits than in other fandoms, for all the reasons you mentioned, but it's sort of because of all that that I do find it all so fascinating. They run so hot and cold, and it feels like interview-to-interview they either love each other and hate each other, and as much as I'm sure that's completely blown up by the press, it's just so much more interesting to me than, say, Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles hanging all over each other at whatever Hollywood event.
