Yes, yes they did. It's rare to find somebody who shares my love for those movies! Actually, the reason I wrote a Yuletide treat for you was because of the Dear Santa letter. You chose my favorite cap from my favorite moment in the whole film...it was clearly fate, lol.
Oh gosh I know, NO ONE UNDERSTANDS, and all three (I am super lame and haven't yet seen Sylvia Scarlett) are among my very very favorites. But you're right, it must be fate-- THAT SCENE, and the way you handled them in your story, we are very clearly on the same wavelength about this.
Unless you REALLY want to see all the movies, you should pass on Sylvia Scarlett. I mean, Kate is really hot. And Cary is also really hot, and plays a character that you wouldn't normally associate with him--a real, genuine scoundrel, and not one with a heart of gold. But in general, the film just was not that good. Of course, I was hoping it'd be another movie about how hot the two of them are together, but...it was not.
About five minutes before the end, my sister looked at me and said "Dude, I'm really scared here. I don't think she's going to end up with Cary!" and I said, "Don't be silly. He's Cary Grant. Of course he gets the girl!" But I guess in 1936, that convention hadn't been established...
